A customer was down deep in our shop yesterday and grabbed me as I walked out from the back room – don’t you have the new knitting magazine they have on TV? I was shocked because we have an amazing display at the front of the shop. What we had missed was the most logical place to display the title - in with the knitting magazines. I felt like a dill! We corrected this and between yesterday and this morning have sold eight copies from this location as well as plenty from the front of the shop.
Customers can teach us plenty.

I have been looking for The Art of Knitting since I first saw it on television. I have been to 5 newsagencies around Melbourne CBD but none of them sells it. Some have not even heard of it. Can you tell me where I can get a copy?
Thanks.

I have been looking for the Art of Knitting all over Perth and no-one seems to have heard of it. Does anyone know a newsagent in Perth that stocks this?

Hearing some of the comments here, i am concerned at the number of people saying that some of the newsagents they have visited have not heard of it.
I am also concerned that newsagents are not taking up the opportunity to order in copies for customers.
It is these newsagents that sometimes bring a bad name to the industry. I find it sad that there are people out there that operate businesses so poorly.

I have some further information. Apparently The Art of Knitting was launched in WA quite some time ago, and they are actually up to edition number 14. (I have been seeing ads for the Art of Knitting on Foxtel and didn’t realise that the ads were only applicable to the Eastern States). However I am disappointed that none of the newsagents that I approached offered to back order any copies for me.
Perhaps the easiest solution is to have a copy shipped to me from the east. Can anyone supply me with the name of a newsagency that they know has copies of the first edition?

Hi Everyone,
I am in Sydney, and I too have had no luck in locating issue one of The Art of Knitting, despite trying in various suburbs.
All of the newsagencies I went to said that they were unable to order anymore in.
These newagencies included, Kingsgrove, Campsie (all 3), Hurstville (2).
I have done a google search and found that you are able to get a subscription directly from the publishers of this series (Bissett Magazines) and postage is free of charge.
Only thing is - you need to give one months notice if you want to cancel your subscription.
The website address is: http://www.bissettmags.com.au
or you can call them on (03) 98724000.
Goodluck!

Violet, do not go direct to Bissett magazines - your local newsagent can get stock for you. There is stock available through their wholesalers. If they refuse I can arrange to ship it. Mark

Hi Mark,
Every single one of the 6 newsagencies I tried, told me they could NOT order anymore in.
Thanks for your offer - but I already started a subscription.

Violet that’s dreadful. Newsagents need your support, not the importer who controls newsagent supplies - it sort of plays into their plans.
I’d encourage you to complain to the distributor.

Hi Mark,
are you able to ship issue one to me? I too am having the same problem with news agents telling me that they cannot back order. I am happy to pay for whatever postage costs.

Hi Mark,
I live in Adelaide and my partner and I have been going around the city looking for the first issue of the Art of Knitting but I can’t seem to find it anywhere. Can you let me know where can I possibly find this magazine in Adelaide? Thank you so much!
18 gae // Aug 21, 2007 at 10:45 AM
Hi Sue,
the magazine is distributed by a company called Gordon and Gotch. They have a website and have contact numbers in each state. The contact numbers can be found at
http://www.gordongotch.com.au/PRODUCTS/d_contacts.asp.
If you ring the SA office, they should be able to provide you with a list of newsagents that stock The Art of Knitting. (The WA office sent me a list of WA newsagents). Good Luck

I managed to get a copy of The Art of Knitting, my problem is that it’s an English publication and I’m having trouble finding the recommended/or near to the recommended yarn blends that they suggest we use to make the projects in the magazine. I looked online, and to make the bath mat in issue 2 will cost me over $133! I will not be buying anymore issues! Happy knitting.

Hi Gae,
I live in Peth and was wondering if I could get a copy of the list of news Agencies that sell The Art of Knitting, would be greatfully apreciated. My problem is that the News agency that I orginally brought my first few issues from have had some back orders for me for over three months and the stuff still hasn’t come in. The distrubters are the problem as they only send a few to them and unfortuately I’m a little down the list.
Any help you could give with the infor would be greatfully helpfull

I am not sure of the WA schedule of distribution. I would go into any newsagency and ask. Mark

Hi
Could you please advise if this can be subscribe and prepayed as not miss an issue?
23 Raelene // Oct 16, 2007 at 6:39 PM
I have subscribed to this magazine and have been waiting over 6 weeks for issues 4-7. I have even prepaid. I am starting to think that a newsagency would have been the way to go.
