News Corp. faith in newspaper

Interesting to see reports Rupert Murdoch is bidding to purchase another newspaper - Newsday in the US.  While the strategy seems to be about controlling a competitor, US$400M is a lot of money for a newspaper.

We (newsagents) don’t do that.  We point at competitors and complain.

Spot on about newsagents as complainers. You have been a strident critic of rhe Australia Post business across the corridor from the Forest Hill newsagency you are selling. I often wondered why you didn’t take on Australia Post at their own game - and incorporated a pack-n-post business into your newsagency. The pack-n-post outlets are hugely successful in the US … and you would have the advantage of offering a smile to the customers. It wins every time.

Anon, We researched Pack N Post. The franchisee fees were too high in my view. Also, I see no point in competing with someone by copying them.

My complaint with Australia Post is that they use their government protection to take business from businesses without such protection.
