Memo tattersalls: I give up

Tattersalls has hand delivered a letter today breaching me for pormoting Intralot in space I have used for eight years to sell magazines and confectionery.  They have given me two days to remove the Intralot terminal.  They have also advised that my comments here are a breach of mny Tattersalls.  It seems the company is scared of my having an opinion and being public with it.

I give up.  The Tattersalls gorilla wins.  The Brumby State Government has been no help.  The office of the Small Business Commissioner has been no help.

dont give up, surely if we all start making a noise somone with half a brain will listen. once again it gets back to individual newsagents not having enough negotiating power. we have to grow and evolve as a group that is the only way forward. once again why do we pay our fees to vana etc. newsagents do not have enough buisness meetings or interaction with each other

Just a thought, surely somewhere in the franchise code of conduct, which is what our agreement with tattersalls falls under, there is a similar clause, just like the one in the retail tenancy act about unconscionable conduct, where big business cant intimidate, bully or coerce small business and customers to their way of thinking,im no lawyer but there must be some protection for us from these standover type tactics in that code somewhere, our businesses continue to be dictated to by people with vested interests in their own products, how about even the accc and the anticompetitve nature of their instructions to us?

Adam, The State Government brought about this change and I expected they would ensure we were dealt with fairly. This has not happened.

Hey Mark had a great idea, now that tatts are making us cover up their scratchie bays we can hold the intralot stock in there as its not visible to the public ,therefore cannnot possibly be in breach of their dedicated area rule.We could place large point of sale material outside this space and area and just dispense from under this zone. Two ways to skin a cat and two can play at this game,id love to get a ruling from an independant body as to who owns the space under the counters that we paid for and thus own in our own rights

it amazes me how companies like these “tell you the way it will be” and treat you like rubbish, then expect you to actively support their product! this applies to bill express aswell, even if they somehow manage to get back to business, surely they dont expect newsagents to support them after they way they’ve been treated.

As a potential future buyer into this business I am horified of the limitted support network that is in place to protect all the small operators out there from pottential ruin…. it’s sounds like soure grapes from Tatts having lost thei stronghold for all these years and now they want to take it out on their outlets … shame, shame on you Tatts.

Julian, There is plenty of big picture stuff at this blog. Some small picture stuff too as such is what happens in newsagencies. Mark
