ABC Shop success

The number of newsagencies offering the ABC Shop range within their stores is growing.  Those I speak with tell me that sales are excellent.  The most successful I have seen recently are in newsagencies in rural and regional situations.

The ABC Shop franchise appears to be well managed and the appointment of ourlets well controlled.  This is a significant benefit to the newsagents who take it on – both in day to day trading and when it comes time to sell the business and determine a goodwill value.

I mention the ABC Shop opportunity today since plenty of newsagents are looking at diversification alternatives.

We would recommend the ABC Centre to anyone who is looking for a destination or point of difference. With only one licence per town it sets us apart from the other 8 newsagencies and makes the shop a lot more appealing to traffic.
You will need to jump through hoops to get the licence but it is well worth it.
We’ve have had our centre for about 18 months now and we are still seeing 100% growth every 6 months, so it keeps getting better and better. It also doesn’t compete with the other areas of the shop but it lends itself to increases in wrap, cards and other areas.

i have looked at it but having already a new shop with a new fitout i just couldn’t justify spending money on another new fitout just yet but it is something i would look at in the future

After you contacted them via their website, how long before they responded, and what sort of application process did they make you go thru?

Chris, you will need the patience of a saint when dealing with the ABC but it is worth it. They contact you and will want to know “everything” before they make a decision.
The ABC chooses you to sell their products not the other way round, they are picky and take their time, but I cannot stress how good it has been for our business since we took it on, it only takes up less then 20% of our store yet gives us more profits the mags, papers and confectionery combined.

Sorry for posting on such an old thread.
Looking at an ABC shop ATM.
Are the shops still in a good position for owners with sales or have they dropped off a fair bit?
Although books look challenged I feel they will pull through the tech age not to bad.
