    WOW. such loyalty on their part on a channel that has sustained them for years.

    should all just boycott ACP magazines even if just for a month. I mean they “signed an exclusive deal” with Coles after all.

    Boycott for a month.No thanks I know where the majority of my mag sales come from and I am fairly sure every newsagent would be in the same boat.
    I won’t cut off my nose to spite my face, feel free if you want to.

    As I have said here many times before, I accept subscriptions as part of the publisher mix. Just as I accept supermarkets, convenience and petrol.

    I think that newsagents have a fundamental question to ask themsleves about selling subscriptions.

    How can we sell subscriptions when ACP have signed an “exclusive deal” with Coles, no disrespect to the other publishers but ACP runs the show as far as weekly and monthly mags.
    Newsagents used to deliver subscription mags to customers and then that was taken away, and now we cannot even access ACP titles, so why settle for second rate titles.
    Is this not something the associations should have been looking at for its members instead of letting us give away free taxpacks?

    I have no problem with ACP looking after themselves but I think a lot of people buy weekly and monthly mags on impulse when they see the cover, or they do around here, easily swapping between NI and WD, or Better homes and Burkes backyard depending on whats in it this month.

    The subscription model failed because newsagents were paid too little and it became uneconomic. Many gave up for this reason (including me) and Network eventually took it back.

    The Coles deal is with Magshop and is based on the sale of a gift card. Newsagents have an opportunity to sell direct subscriptions for ACP and other titles if publishers are prepared to invest in their IT infrastructure to make this happen.

    Luke putting all your eggs in one basket is a risky game (ACP) there are many alternative titles available its just the arrogance and dominance of ACP over a long period that has everyone playing their tune. Our store numbers are showing huge declines with their MUST HAVE titles, thus eroding the entire magazine focus in store. Clearly ACP have shown their hand this time? love to know what margin that have offered their exclusive partner.
