St George bank cares less about newsagents

Just a few years ago St George Bank was crowing about deals for newsagents in a push to win over newsagents for EFTPOS processing.  Now, the bank is rewarding loyalty by increasing fees to newsagents.  Some EFTPOS related fees have increased 100%.  I am not away of any increase in costs to St George which would require a 100% increase in fees they charge to their customers.

Newsagents I have spoken with are voting with their feet, taking their EFTPOS business elsewhere.

After having Tyro in my business i would never ever go back to a Bank Eftpos unit. The saving on time alone is outstanding let alone other costs saved.
I recently had a phone call from a major EFTPOS player and as soon as i informed them i was with Tyro, they told me they couldnt compete from what they had already heard about it.

    Hi Allan

Interesting… I had a call with Tyro who said they could now come close to matching my bank – Suncorp. So I have stayed with them. What is interesting is that there are alternatives out there and better deals if you are willing to shop around.

    Cheers

    Peter,
Its great that Suncorp has looked after you and it is terrific that there is alternatives and better deals for Merchants. I think Tyro fees are similar to that of the banks maybe even a touch higher but with Tyro a business can do away with a phone line, saving money on Line Rentals. The beauty of this blog is to let other retailers that they can, and should, negotiate better deals with thier banks. Personally if i had to pay more for Tyro i would…..it simply cannot be beaten for speed and accuracy.
    Cheers
    Al

Ditto Alan, every so often we used to fail to notice that a transaction had timed out and declined and we lost dollars. No such issues with Tyro linked to Tower and it’s much faster.

The only issue I have with Tyro is that Fri-Sat-Sun eftpos does not settle until midday monday for me which knocks cashflow due to high eftpos use over the weekends, it would be great if it goes same day like banks are starting to do. we quit the NAB about 2 yrs ago for tyro and if this is my only issue then Tyro is streets ahead.

I chnaged over to Tyro some six months ago and I would never go back. It is inter locked with your POS, does not time out and above all it is so professional in the eyes of the customer and easy to use.
I believe a system like Tyro sells your business. It shows customers your level and standard of service.

Allan, I would occassionally charge customers $61.59 even if the had spent $5.00. My staff code was 6159. Doesn’t happen anymore.
