Is the Drive section about to be cut from The Saturday Age?

I have heard that home delivery copies of The Saturday Age in some parts of Victoria will soon not have the Drive section in the newspaper.  Home delivery customers who ask about this, I am told, will be pointed to the drive.com.au website. Retail copies of the newspaper will continue to have the Drive section.

None of this sounds right. Why would a newspaper cut out such an important section of the newspaper? Many people used to purchase The Saturday Age for the car advertisements in the Drive section. Maybe more are going to the website and the print version has become redundant. If that is the case why eliminate it from home delivery copies and not retail copies?

Maybe this is just another rumour about newspapers which is not true at all, too early or only has some hints of truth.

Maybe there are some out there who can enlighten us.

We recieved a fax from Fairfax on Wedneday (in their usual prompt fashion)advising that the Sat Age early edition (country editions I presume) will no longer contain Mycareer and Domain sections. Maybe drive is next week. This sounds like the slow death of a newspaper to me!!!, why would anyone want to buy it any more as there will be nothing in it to read.

We had a fax on Wednesday re MyCareer and Domain sections being removed from “early editions of the Saturday Age” i.e. the edition supplied to country newsagents. Apparently this decision was made in response to current economic conditions and widespread feedback but on reading the accompanying notice it would seem to be a strong push for on-line reading.

No mention of the Drive section at this stage.

I’ve cancelled my long-standing subscription to the Saturday Age today. Why pay full price for only half a newspaper? Based on the amount of time I had to wait to get through to cancel it, a lot of other country folks are doing the same. I only received ‘that letter’ yesterday. Country people are being discriminated against once more. Time to make some noise!

Sorry people, I will no longer buy the age as no Drive section. Why pay 3.30 for two thirds of a paper. I will now buy the herald sun. Thanks for the last 30 years. Good luck
