Hurting our own XchangeIT data

We have a policy in my newsagencies that we will not sell out of a title while it is hot – within reason. We chase extra stock from magazine distributors for as long as we think we can sell the stock.

A good example is the AWW Queen’s Diamond Jubilee one-shot.

Having sold out of our second order for this title and being told there is none left we have purchased stock from a supermarket. We have done this to avoid having to send shoppers elsewhere when our sales are at their peak. To us, the decision was easy. We refuse to show that as a magazine specialist we can’t supply.

The down side is that our actions damage the XchangeIT sales data. This should not be the case. the XchangeIT standard ought to allow show showing that we sourced product elsewhere. We have done nothing wrong other than protecting our business interests when a supplier could not help us.

I am sure we are not alone in doing this.

Mark it is also a drama when stock goes missing so we get it from else where especially to fill any orders and then find out that because the sales have gone through we get a reverse on our credits and get charged , this has happend a couple of time with GG

Shaun it’s something I would like to see addressed so that our integrity remains in tact.

Ditto as per Shaun S. If a weekly doesn’t arrive we go next door and buy from Coles to ensure OUR customers don’t go there. G&G can be unhappy about our returns because of this.

We have bought stock elswhere on occassions ( 1 or 2 mags.) but we sell it under another dep’t. so it doesn’t disrupt our sales data. There should be a manual way of receiving the stock into the system so the dist. companies know what is happening.

We have seen a couple of partworks this year but nothing like some previous years. My understanding there is at least one big one coming up.

Mark – “a couple of artworks” and “at least one big one coming up”. Will it be Blue Poles part by part?
