Strong interest in The Age tabloid launch

The launch today of the new tabloid size of The Age has resulted in sell outs across all retail channels. In one of my stores, in a major shopping centre in Melbourne, every outlet with the title has sold out and none is able to get more stock. This is frustrating.

The strong interest is being driven by the excellent coverage of the new size.

Sold out here about half an hour ago. This was always going to be a sell out the question now being will these sales figures continue.

This is also happening with the Sydney Morning Herald. Sold out Midday.

SMH selling well, subs need more and we have the stock to supply. Just how we like it!

Somebody from Fairfax management was on ABC radio this morning and was upset when the presenter called it a tabloid – it is call a “compact” newspaper.

No thought that sales would be higher due to the collector effect. Not a good way to keep your company afloat, missing sales.

Very positive response to both Age and SMH format today. Sad the Marketing department had no influence on the Production department, they couldn’t afford to print enough copies for demand.
    Still feels dysfunctional.
