Showing off shoplifters to cut retail theft

shopliftingI think I like the photos of shoplifters on show in the front window of a store I saw a couple of days ago. I say think because I’m not 100% sure. The number of photos suggests that this shop is a haven for shoplifters. It also says it watches videos and will not hold back in publishing photos of people exposed as stealing. I think the better approach is to promote the images online where more can see them.

I think this sends the wrong message. The window is essentially a marketing campaign that tells customers “we’re watching you” and “we don’t trust you”.

It’s a waste of valuable space that could be used to build the business rather than manage a shoplifting problem.

Agree with Jarryd re using windows to promote your business and what you have to sell.

Also, can leave shop owner liable to tort if they are putting up pictures of suspects rather than those convicted of theft.

    Too negative for me.

Add password protection/security to all areas of your software and ONLY allow employees to access what they really need. Look at your “profit margin reports” every day. If your margins are low in a certain category for that day, then you should do a little research to find out why. Secure the access to your customer’s personal information in your POS software… particularly, their credit card information!

Alica POS software connected to any network should not be used to store credit card numbers.
