Extraordinary growth in newsagency card sales

Our Everyday Counter Card sales are up 17% year on year comparing jan-Mar 2014 to 2013.  This is off an excellent base. This category of cards accounts for 56.9% of all cards we sell.

17% YOY growth is an extraordinary result. It is valuable with cards delivering the best gross profit percentage out of all categories we sell in our business. I’d be happy to explain our process to anyone.

Talking with another newsagent today, their card sales are up 19% in the same period – a fantastic result.

Not 17% but still a pretty good increase and a great rebate this quarter for Mittagong.

That is great growth Mark. How did you achieve this?

Amanda four things: engagement with newsXpress strategies, active engagement with Hallmark our core supplier, proactive promotion of discount vouchers and we put our own stock out and therefore have excellent product knowledge. While we do more than this, it is these three things that make the biggest contribution. If I have to target one key driver it’s discount vouchers.

Mark, with your sales up 17%, and the main driver discount vouchers, what % are you up in profit $?

Bill the 17% is just cards. Across the whole business we are up 11.5%. The GP cost has been just under 1% this quarter.
