Screen Shot 2014-04-26 at 7.30.43 amGreat to see The Saturday Paper supporting newsagents again with supply and supporting this with social media mentions of our channel. Suppliers speaking to their customers about our channel is important in this social media centric world.

Age came 4 hours late today.

According to Fairfax it was mechanical issues at their Ballarat plant.

I was told over a week ago that they have insufficient trucks to bring the papers from Ballarat to Melbourne, and to expect a disaster.

Dean next time they tell you that let me know and I can ask the question here.

I’m in the eastern suburbs of Adelaide and we got our copies of THE SATURDAY PAPER with our AGE and SUN at 9.30 am
(normal) and we had sold out of the SATURDAY PAPER in less than an hour.
We only got 10 copies so I am increasing them for next week.
I was tickled pink as it was 27% GP as opposed to 12.5% for the other papers so why wouldn’t I want it.
The profit margin is very acceptable to me
and I will push it as hard as I can before the other papers because of that.
I offered it to W/E Aust buyers and no-one baulked at the $3 price.

What I like June is that people ask for it.

I haven’t had a single request for it, but I am going to give it a try. Never know, putting it under noses may do the trick. It works with so many other things.

Distribution Newsagents in South Australia are not receiving supplies of The Saturday Paper at a time that will optimise sales. Despite copies arriving in SA on Friday afternoon, distribution by Toll does not take place until after SA’s main Sat paper has been distributed by Newsagents.

My understanding is Toll are following delivery order run sheets precisely as IPS have laid out and so deliveries are made by Toll at the time they deliver the Age.

The solution should be easy. If IPS were to change the delivery instructions for Toll to ensure The Saturday Paper is delivered with the Financial Review, then Subagents would have their copies prior to opening time Saturday morning and Home Delivery customers would wake up Saturday morning to the paper of that name.

The Weekend Fin Review is delivered by Toll and arrives (at my depot) some 2 + hours before the Saturday Advertiser.

I would love to support this paper and welcome its presence in SA, especially now that News Ltd are not passing on the benefit of any price increases for their publications to Distribution Newsagents, but I won’t waste my time putting it out on Sundays notwithstanding the superior margins on offer.

Contact will be made with IPS by another Newsagent today, so hopefully the change can be made.

June, it would be interesting to see how many of those Weekend Australian purchasers that also bought the Saturday Paper will be buying it again next week.

Since it’s obviously written and run by those pinko commo ABC-loving chardonnay-swilling lefties that upset Uncle Rupert so much.

I leave The Saturday paper out for sale all the following week, often pick up an extra sale or two. I do have the space however.

Arrived at around 10am with The Age and SMH, put them on the front counter and with the newspapers, also put one in our cafe. Sold 21 on Sat, 4 on Sunday and have put in an order for 10 more as I think they will sell through the week.

Dennis, if IPS are reading this site (and I’m sure they are) they will maybe??? understand the dilemma of the Distribution agent (I put a capital D because I have been a DA for many many years before I was retail only and it is an ongoing problem)
It is IMPERATIVE that THE SATURDAY PAPER arrives in time to be delivered early Sat am to maximize sales in this state and all states.
IPS need to understand that imperative because retail is only half of the picture.
Only direct retail will be able to sell the new paper in a timely manner which leaves out many large subbies who are relying on their Distribution Agent to get the paper to them in time for Saturday trading.
It isn’t hard – it is a logistics thing and it
needs to be handled NOW at the coalface or the publication will fold because of their
    inefficiencies.
As a direct retail agent my supplies are fine but I do understand this issue and it
is very important for IPS to understand it.
If you don’t get any satisfaction with IPS go direct to Morry Schwartz who is the publisher (of the MONTHLY magazine so his email would be in that mag).
I’m sure he wouldn’t be wanting potential
sales losses because of poor logistics.
Reg, I loved your comment – unfortunately I sold all my copies early so I don’t know what was even in the publication but I have increased for next week so I’ll have a look at it then.

    Reg,
Love your skill with the English language. And I think you are not too far from the centre. Made me a smile on a rough Monday. Well done.
If nothing else The Saturday Paper may help rebalance the media landscape.

    June,

Yes, on the surface, it doesn’t appear to be a good business practice to have this paper arrive in Adelaide and then sit for what could be 15-20 hours without moving on again.

Hopefully it is just a logistical detail that wasn’t sourced through properly rather than a determined decision.

Thank you for the publisher information, I was already aware of the Morry Schwartz connection.

Just downloaded IPS xchangeit for the weekend and disappointed to see I am only getting 10 Saturday Paper (same as last week). I sent an email on the same day to ask for more for this Saturday. (6 days’ notice). If I had a customer who wanted extra of something there is no way known I wouldn’t comply immediately.
I don’t understand this complacency. I will not have enough to even cover the people who asked me to keep them this week.
IT IS SO SO SO FRUSTRATING.

What i am finding frustrating is that we DO NOT deliver newspapers.

We are a subagent to another newsagent who does these deliveries.

Yet the information that is sent out by the saturday paper themselves is that we do the deliveries and for customers to contact us if there are any problems.

We are sick of the calls, and have notified The Saturday Paper, IPS, and NANA that we are NOT a delivery agent.

But no one seems to get it!! I don’t want to know about another agents failure to deliver a product….

The Saturday Paper arrived at the depot 2+ hours before the Saturday Advertiser this morning, so it looks as though whatever was in the way of a good result last week has been overcome.

The Saturday Paper arrived in a timely manner and I sold out in a 1/2 hour (again). I requested on the Saturday of
the previous week that I get double the
quantity but to no avail so I had (once again) so many disgruntled customers and that is NOT good for business.
It is a weekly paper and quantities should reflect this.

Hopefully we will get our double supply this coming week.
It is a good publication for those people who want to read indepth about a business or political issue and I think it has a future.
However, I had a customer tell me that Murdoch was behind the paper and he is always in the background for a new launch.
Apparently????? he manages to “help” with a new launch so that he cannot be
blamed for being the only owner of a newspaper in any capital city of Australia.(especially when he is on the verge of being challenged in Parliament on this issue).
I thought it was an interesting conspiracy theory but Morry Schwartz probably thinks otherwise.

Has anyone else had problems with their delivery of the Saturday Paper today. We got zero and after speaking to the carrier it appears a lot of agencies on the NSW south coast are in the same position.
What is going on? No one at IPS either and a lot of frustrated customers.

Southern Highlands had no problems Gregg, but we were bundles short of Fin Review which is on sale for 3 days.

I’m selling out of the Saturday paper every week and I’m increasing my orders
    exponentially.
I am pointing it out to people and pushing it as hard as I can for 27.5% – who wouldn’t??
I will get more commission from the 31 sales of The Saturday Paper this week than I will for my Sunday mails today (if I sell them all).

One of my selling points for the Saturday Paper is the paper itself. It is SO superior to the News Ltd papers in quality that it is a real talking point.
Anyway, I am happy with having some other publication that values the newsagent more than the Murdoch publications have ever done.
I find it refreshing even if I don’t always agree with the content of the new publication, to read another viewpoint.
