Is warm weather affecting your sales?

I was kind of surprised to see the article in The Age reporting  warm weather is affecting sales. While I understand the impact weather has on fashion, I didn’t expect much impact elsewhere, especially not in the newsagency channel.

In a situation like ours where we are in a complex that is within a street shopping environment, warm weather encourages customers to shop outside as opposed to inclement or hot weather that encourages shopping within the centre.

Warmer weather is definitely holding off the winter retail doldrums with sales holding up longer in May than normal. I fear it is only a short term reprieve however.

Warm weather is deflecting readers – can’t wait for the first chill day – our magazine sales will spike and I tease the customers that it’s “indoor sports weather” …. The wet Saturday before Mothers Day was big because blokes couldn’t mow the lawn and needed a magazine fix !
