Bauer Media increases Yours supply without justification

magsyoursincreaseOur supply of Yours was increased by close to 20% by the Bauer Media allocations team without any justification in our sales data. With a consistent (except for one issue) sell-through of between 40% and 50% there is no reason for any increase in supply.

This is gross oversupply by Bauer.

I’d love to know if other newsagents have experienced a similar increase in supply of Yours without justification.

Yours is loss making for us on the current numbers. sales are not covering the retail real-estate and labour involved in carrying the title. the extent of the loss is extended by what to me looks like a broken supply model.

Bauer owned Network Services raves about its Sales Based Replenishment facilities. With Yours being a fortnightly title there are several options for top-up through the on-sale.

A fairer model would be skinnier supply and top up based on sales data. This makes the publisher and distributor more accountable rather than the apparent current model of using the small business newsagent as the warehouse and the back.

Yours probably got doubled because I requested our allocation to be halved, and they still print the same number of copies !!

IF YOU ARE BEING OVER SUPPLIED JUST CANCEL IT THEN CONTACT THOSE WHO ADVERTISE IN THAT PUBLICATION AND TELL THEM WHY!. IF EVERY NEWSAGENT TOOK A STAND ON OVER SUPPLY ONE MAGAZINE TITLE AT A TIME MAYBE THINGS CAN CHANGE. AFTER ALL THE DECADES OF INEFFECTIVE NEGOTIATIONS BY NEWSAGENCY REPRESENTATIVE BODIES NOTHING HAS CHANGED WHY NOT TRY A DIFFERENT APPROACH???

Ken supply overall is quite good now. I have the control I want. It’s when something slips through – like with Yours – that I get frustrated.

Our supply was bumped up 40% this issue. No real reason as our sell through is usually 50-60%. That said the mag suits our demographic and I can see it doing very well in our store.

Sorry I’m off topic but has anyone else had issues sourcing Red Bull F1 partworks? I have 2 customers that are each spent $1K building this car and I battle every week to keep our allocation at 2. I have rung Network and finally after 10 weeks it seem the MAY have rectified it as next issues allocation is still showing as 2. That said my customers are nervous that they won’t get the missed issues and I have a dozen backorders sitting in the system.
Network aren’t the ones that cop the abuse each week if someone misses out so I’m HOPING they do the right thing and fill the orders soon!

Stacy, I stopped putting away partworks for that very reason. I get them all and I tell the customers “first in first served” and over the years they have accepted that.
I then have no responsibility for getting backorders (which often don’t come) and I have saved myself so much angst it is unbelievable. I tell the customers the truth “the companies are unreliable when it comes to getting the right supply so I have been forced to take these measures”
By the way I think I sell more part series because of this as they all arrive early in the week to pick up as soon as the partworks arrive. If I get too little – too bad.
    This industry is sooooo frustrating.
Yesterday I should have recd. 10 x boxes of AFL cards from GG. They arrived thru xchangeit dated 5/6 so when I rang this morning (our SA depot) they said they had arrived too late for them to be delivered so now I won’t get them until Tuesday.
I planned my extras well in advance and I have just run out today so it is so galling that I will have to work all weekend without any trading cards just because the delivery people “didn’t get it in time”
The issue, of course, is that if you don’t put a credit through in 48 hours they can refuse to credit you so I have to put the credit online and then when (???) the goods come in I have to email them to ask them to bill me again.
I swear these people don’t care about retailing. We are on our own.
Has anyone done any reader rewards for
Bauer yet?????? We are all set to go but so far we haven’t had any takers.

Sam, I don’t think the number is greater now than usual. In looking to buy the key is to shop for value. If you see that – come join us and helps grow this channel.
