onlineprivacyI noticed this magazine, Online Privacy, on the shelves of another newsagency and was surprised it had not been widely scaled out. With the many stories about online security breaches and data hacking hitting international companies, this title would sell. Fear drives sales. Online Privacy is a title I am sure many newsagents would have selected had it been offered to us through a pull model.

    I am getting really frustrated with the swathe of Italian mags coming from IPS.
    I have now requested (3 times) to have them removed from my account as I do NOT have an Italian demographic and so far I have not been listened to.
    It is just not on that we cannot tell a supplier that something is not wanted in our store.
    I have been in this industry for nearly 40 years and it is the single most important thing that pulls our industry down – the push model of mags is outmoded and outdated and the people still adhering to it are dinosaurs.
    Let the newsagent request what he wants and let him/her cancel whatever they want to cancel.
    Surely the distributors know that we would NOT cancel something that had the capacity to earn us income?
    My second whinge for the day!!!!!!
    Bundled mags make my shop look like a junk shop.
    I loathe that look – it is not clean, or smart looking and it reduces the amount of “good” product that I can fit into the shelves. e.g. Dmag, Total girl etc with the junk on the front. The junk might sell the two copies I can fit into the fittings but the rest have to go back because they don’t fit. I bet I could sell more if they were nearly stacked in a bundle of 6-10 which would then fit neatly into the shelves and look 100% better.
    I can only think that the mag publishers have no faith in the product to sell without the junk attached.
