The ANF promotes newsagents versus Officeworks

anfpensIt’s dangerous for the ANF to promote that newsagents sell four colour Bic pens for $3.20 with Officeworks at $3.61 – dangerous because newsagents are not consistent with pricing and dangerous because Bic is not the only brand pen we sell.

I sell a Papermate four colour pen for $2.60. I think it’s better than the Bic product. The ANF promotion does not support my business nor the businesses of many newsagents with this pitch.

While I understand what the ANF was trying to do with its tweet, I don’t see it as good use of the social media platform. There are other tweets the ANF could more safely send for newsagents.

I’d be interested to low if the ANF engaged with GNS and Ancol about this.

    The ANF is advertising the price of a stationery line. I’d expect they checked with retailers and wholesalers.

    I like what the ANF is trying to do here I like it a lot.
    I could go into the next 4 Newsagent’s I drive past on the way home and the price point will differ on most saying that, in Two the item could not be purchased.
    To be able to MAKE all Newsagent’s stock and price X product I feel will never happen and that is and always has been the real problem of this industry.
    Even buying groups can not get all the members on board for an offer though it might be the best deal ever.
    If you cant beat them join them!
    But Newsagents never do.

    Don’t really see an issue at all , just look at partworks “available at newsagents now” that would not be true at all, but we let that pass . Why make an issue about this especially without first seeing if they at least checked with a few agents . It is a basic message letting the public know we are just as good as Oworks I don’t really think there would be a mad rush on bic pens today because of it and I don’t think that is the aim of the tweet

    Does anyone besides newsagents follow the ANF twitter feed? Do newsagents even follow it?

    @shauns
    Sorry but that is and always will be the real problem and the sad thing is we will never see it.

    I’d prefer no price offered. In my own case with a considerably lower price alternative I’d prefer to see that pitched as it’s the best deal of the three prices discussed in this thread.

    Shaun I think there is a better way to get the message out that newsagents are price competitive.

    & as Officeworks price matches you can take your phone into any OW and know that they’ll sell it to you at $3.20…
