Poor bugger is delusional. Im not sure there will always be a newspaper on the breakfast table. In fact the more that time goes on, the less certain I am. Once the generation that grew up with newspapers passes on, I cant see where the market for them will come from. Younger people simply do not buy newspapers to access and consume their news.

Publishers are caught in a gigantic pincer movement of lower ad revenues, increasing costs, and global content competition which is a death spiral for the hard copy medium. Id suggest that the last thing publishers want to invest new capital into is olde worlde technology. In Australia, Fairfax is the example that has removed all investment into supporting or sustaining print. News Corp has now jumped as well.

So the expectation that distributors will get some level of additional compensation to accommodate and catch up historic cost increases is sadly pie in the sky.

Im not unconvinced publishers are relying on the next sucker principle to see out the product life time of newspapers.

    Yes, he’s delusional.

Yes, I strongly doubt that expectation exists in Australia.
