58 newsagent suppliers book for supplier forum

53 newsagent suppliers have booked so far to participate in the forums I have organised for next week to discuss how they can help newsagents navigate to a brighter future. Click here to download a booking form. I’d love to see more suppliers participating – and newsagents too. Book here: Melbourne. March 17, 9am. Best Western, Kew. Sydney. March 18, 9am. Bonnie Doon Golf Club. Brisbane, March 19. 9am. River View Hotel.

The attendee mix is a good correction of old and new suppliers.

Once again we are ruled out due to isolation but there are a hell of a lot of business’s outside of the major cities. Don’t forget us.

Carol this is s supplier forum. Your needs can be represented through the survey. With respect, distance is your choice.

Rick some newsagents in remote locations expect people to come to them. Someone has to pay for that. Newsagents say they want lower prices so they can compete. Distance drives prices up as does having to deal with individual businesses. My point to Carol, beyond the fact that this is a supplier forum I am personally funding, is that people who locate in remote locations make that geographic choice.

Watch out Mark, I think Tony Abbott might be sneaking in a comment using your name.

Mark, we are all well aware that being in remote locations costs more, we expect that,as do our customers. I don’t expect visits as regular as you city folk, I think June was just articulating that if you are discussing things, don’t forget to discuss servicing rural and remote sites as well, we don’t expect special treatment, and are used to paying extra freight. Just most info that comes out seems to have a surprise attached with extra freight that we find about after we order something, just get supplies to acknowledge that in offers so we know what we are being offered. Yes we choose to live in rural and remote areas, just don’t use that as an excuse not to be upfront with us. I appreciate the work you do within the channel, but I stand by my comment that your last sentence was not necessary, and came across as a dig at someone’s lifestyle choice. The bush might be struggling at the moment, but it built this country. Ok rant over.

Rick, people who know me would know that I do that. carol has personal experience of this and that is what frustrated me in the comment. My comment did not mention lifestyle whatsoever and it’s offensive that anyone would insert it into what I said. People live in rural and regional locations for lots of reasons.

The whole country is challenged and many retail channels are challenged.

Someone has to pay when there are extra costs. Some suppliers offer blended freight where city people subsidise country people. Other have a user pays approach. The bottom line is that someone has to pay.

Suppliers who say there is no cost would not be telling the truth.

If I was in the country, my first question would be how can I make doing business with me cost less and then I’d use that to negotiate with suppliers.
