Daily newspaper circulation declines

The latest newspaper circulation results reveal all dailies experiencing declines for print. The Fairfax numbers leave me wondering how long they can continue printing a product seven days a week.

Newspapers present a bigger challenge right now for newsagents than magazines. These latest declines are not unexpected given the trends we have seen over recent years.

It doesn’t help matters that the publishers seem to be pushing digital over print at every chance they get. I saw a display today in a big shopping center very close to a newsagent that was heavily pushing some sort of “Plus Club” digital newspaper offering for the local News Ltd paper.

Beside the push for digital Fairfax seems to be extremely aligned to the left and it always tries to put down the currant Government as well as being Hadley haters (look in todays Herald) unless they change and be more balanced in their editorial they will go down the drain. A paper that used to outsell the Telegraph three to one has now gone to one to three because of this.
