Why newsagents need to start scanning newspaper sales

With News Corp. using newsagent sales data to set newspaper supplies newsagents need to be careful about tacking newspaper sales. I urge all newsagents to review how they sell newspapers.

Scanning each newspaper will provide the most accurate result.

Using a hot key to record a newspaper sale will be okay as long as you have the right barcode associated with the hot key. Talk with your software company about this.

Ignoring this move by News Corp. could result in their system having inaccurate data and this could lead to inappropriate allocations.

I am not satisfied this system will be workable in my area where delivery depends on weather, transport and the whim of who ever put them on the bus. truck or plane. Its a constant shambles here.

mmm … I hope NEWS can manage my newspapers better with xchangit info. I have tried to change various quantities on their website quite a few times lately. The change gets submitted okay but gets over ridden later. Case in point I wanted some more papers for Thursday 28th, the day after State of Origin 1. Over ridden.

Don’t like the idea , customers are flat out staying long enough so you can serve them and take their money let alone wait for you to scan it . Paper customers want a quick in and out numerous times throughout the day they just throw the money on the counter and walk out (paper customers only ) Why do they need anymore data than what they get from iservices ?

The more I think about it the more I just don’t get it , what about put away customers or account customers that don’t get sold each day some stay in their put away boxes for over a week , how is this going to help any situation

So how can this work for distribution newsagents? It can’t. They don’t have a clue how many papers we give to subs or home delivery.
Simple solution is give us control over supply.

Xchangit doesn’t work for us with GG and NDC so what is News Ltd going to achieve with it?
    Maybe oversupply of newspapers 🙂

    Hi Jenny,

News Corp told me this is only applicable in a Retail Newsagent situation, rather than Distribution as well.

Maybe for the customers who leave change and run out the door; a copy of the bar-code each day could be stuck in an appropriate spot near the scanner for a quick hit. Just a thought, but it may not be practicable.

It is easy with newsagency software to have a touch button on the screen to sell the paper and for this to record the right barcode for that day.

We have a hotkey and it records the right barcode for each day of the week. I will continue to use this. I won’t scan them individually.

Bruce that provides the same outcome. The key message for newsagents using hot keys is to ensure they use the right barcode.
