How much does Melbourne Cup impact retail in other states this week?

Besides the cross the counter discussion, sales increase today compared to a dual Monday while tomorrow is dead from noon on.

We are fairly lucky because we are right next to TAB. We don’t have a public holiday either. I think you have one in Victoria?

We have a big sales day on Monday and Tuesday, mainly newspapers – sportsman, best bets, tele. It will be even larger than normal due to the high jackpots as people have an extra punt on the day. And I am on the outskirts of Sydney. Its good that people spend more as it will cover the losses I have tomorrow picking the wrong bloody horse AGAIN!

We have a pretty busy morning, then from about 1.30 PM everyone is at functions or the pub, we see a few but not many in the afternoon.

We have sold out of tele’s, best bets, sportsmans and winning post but not as many people betting on the lotto, i expect some to bet after the race but i think most people will save their money strictly for the cup this week.
    best of luck to everyone.

Melbourne cup day is the quietest Tuesday of the year by far for us. Hopefully this year is different!
