News Corp. and Tatts in joint promotion

I have heard from newsagents in the last hour and a half about a joint promotion announced by Tatts today. The responses I have received from newsagents so far include: groan, really?, ugh, what will they think of next? and, groan (again):

There is some very exciting ‘news just in’ for Set for Life, not only did we have another 1st Prize winner in the draw last night – but there is also a fantastic promotion running this May.

For the entire week 15 – 21 May any customer that purchases a Set for Life entry will receive a complimentary News Corp newspaper!

This promotion is all about increasing the awareness and trial of the new game Set for Life with new customers, whilst also increasing circulation of the News Corp titles for the entire week. The great news for you is that you will receive full commission for the papers given away as part of this promotion (it will be as if you sold the newspaper even though it was given away for free!) as well as full commission for the Set for Life products that you sell.

This is a great opportunity for you to invite your newspaper customers to trial the new game Set for Life, and talk to every customer about the game.  It’s also a wonderful time to encourage customers to play using their own numbers, with Entry Coupons being distributed via every copy of the The Sunday Mail on Sunday 15 May.

Be sure to keep an eye out for more information on how this promotion will work in-store and how you can support the offer.  Make sure you also share the exciting news with your customers about the latest winner and keep an eye out for the winners story!

Hope someone is talking to the software companies.

I may be biased but I love WA, state owned lotterywest and no daily local Newscorp titles. Have fun reconciling what you sold and what you gave away, and getting recompensed for the ones you gave away.

Steve – yes. LotteryWest is a dream compared to Tatts.

Richard, No, but that will not surprise you.

Sorry, but i’m a subbie agent – no deliveries for me

Yet I can’t even get enough supply from my disty agent to cope with a NORMAL day, let alone some stupid promotion.

How would I get paid for all these papers i give away anyway, since I don’t have a direct account with News Ltd any more??? Unless the credit is paid into our Tatts account to offset our subbie supplies

Reconciliation wouldn’t be a problem for anyone with a brain – so i expect Tatts would still be able to mess it up (like they have with the scratchies)

I’ll explain it so that Tatts can have a head start

1x sale of 1 Set for life ticket = 1 x credit for a Telegraph

I like it. I have twice as many lottery customers as News Corp customers. If this directs a few away from the IGA just 30 metres from my door, who sell more papers than me …has to be good.

Yet another dumb-ass promotion from News.

Most of the biggest lotto retailers in NSW are subagents, so getting enough stock will never happen. As Subaru has said, reconciliation of credits will no doubt be a nightmare.

Once again we will prepare to be abused by consumers because we won’t get enough stock being a subagent.

The best promos are the ones where the product being sold and the “gift” have a relationship. The “Buy one get one free” with some superdraws is a great example of that.

What is the relationship between lotteries and newspapers? That they are both, sometimes, bought in the same premises?

From recent emails, Tatts seem to be doing OK with sales increasing, so I wonder where their benefit is in this.

For the newspapers, up to date, relevant content is the key. Less of making the story about them (eg the latest News poll) and something more relevant, such as asking Scott Morrison how a revenue neutral change to tax will reduce the deficit. Hint” It won’t.

Maybe some thoughtful analysis of policy, not the latest chain jerk from Rupert would also help.

I am sick of poll driven politicians, I want to see some policy driven ones.

First time I have heard of Tatts actually working with another supplier! I will support as this will help my customers!
