Promoting the News Corp. Marvel campaign

IMG_5154 (1)Here is how we are promoting the News Corp. Marvel offer at the front of the newsagency on the lease line. While the display is nt as big at the publisher would like, it is in the very best position for eyeballs, the the front of the shop and next to a stunning display of Marvel licenced products, most of which you cannot see in the photo.

While I like the promotion, News Corp. needs to re-visit newsagent compensation as what we make does not cover the actual costs involved and the sales kick is not sufficiently long-term to provide a good return on our investment.

Looking at this more broadly, the company’s approach to sharing reasonable details of the promotion early denied many newsagents enough time to get in other products to leverage the border opportunity. I consider their approach selfish and not what we should see from a supplier that says they support our channel and want newsagents to have a string future.

Mark while this statement would normally be correct in this instance it is wrong.

News Ltd (at least in Victoria) sent out details 1-2 months ago along with an opportunity to purchase stock from a 3rd party suppler at better margins than News normally provides.

Dean I have written this from a national perspective. While I am aware of the News Corp. letter, I know of plenty retail only newsagents who received no such communication. Interstate, the company has a poor track record on this.

I agree that H&WT in VIC is good. However, they need better direct to retailer comms.

Mark we got the letter 2 months ago in SA too.

Newscorp offered us the choice of 3 packs of Marvel product to choose from as an add on sale. The product was cheap and junky but no doubt some would have taken up the offer. The GP on this was only 30% so we did not partake in the offer and chose to source product at full margin from suppliers actually are in the business of supplying gift products.

We are a retail only agent.

Still have not received an information about this promotion from distribution agent.

Amanda, I could almost guarantee that all my newsagent subagents would say the same thing, except I can guarantee that I did forward the information on

The same goes for the Saturday Herald Sun price rise that I will be sending them tomorrow

Sorry Dean, but we rang the distributor and he knows nothing about it. Does it every promotion.

Thankfully, folks at the H&WT keep me up to date. Since that started happening I’ve not missed an opportunity.
