Scary magazine supply day on October 31

A newsagent contacted me yesterday reporting extraordinary magazine oversupply planned for their business by Network Services for tomorrow, October 31. In their own words here are their concerns:

Just thought this might be interesting to post on your Blog, Network are saying the last day to submit returns for this month is Wednesday 30th .My concern is there is a lot of stock coming in on Thursday which they just confirmed with me via phone can be submitted but probably wont appear on this months statement.

How can they scale out magazines on the last day of the month and then say you probably wont get a credit for any excess ? Is this legal?

Their excuse was with so many returns being submitted online their computer systems cannot process all the data in time to guarantee the credit appears on Octobers statement.

How become Gotch accepts returns via exchange it on then last day where as Network.

I would be interested to know how other Newsagents handle this.

The only way to fight magazine oversupply is through a structured legal process. Until newsagents do this they will continue to be treated as they have been.

Total B.S. They receive the files via XchangeIt within 20-30 minutes of us processing them and they should go straight into their system, isn’t that what the computerised systems they have have in place are all about??????
Do payments made tomorrow NOT make it onto the statements??????
Processing them in time is their problem just like entering the returns into the system are ours. They need to be held accountable for this.
Lets all fax our returns to them with the expectation that credit claims can be deducted from statements as they would be with any other supplier.

Don’t forget that if you’ve got your Tower POS configured to early return on arrival you can download the files for tomorrow now , allocate the early returns and return them in the early returns submission that you make today. You just then have to put the tops/fulls into the boxes tomorrow when they arrive.

We seem to have so few mags come that ask if we want to early return when they come in I wonder if we have ours set correctly.

Does this work? They used to reject as errors because they are being returned before the on-sale date.

It seemed to work the month before last month which I think was the last occassion of the days falling like this. I haven’t submitted yet today but will do shortly and will report back.

Paul (2) I have done all my returns as you
said and they have bounced back from netonline as (YOU HAVEN’T BEEN BILLED FOR THESE GOODS YET SO YOU CAN’T RETURN THEM).
I have done this before so I should have known but I haven’t pressed the final buttons on netonline for sending the goods back so I am going to wait until I open the shop tomorrow (then it is the 31st) and try again.
They will certainly be hearing from me if the goods are rejected tomorrow.

Carol, if you are with Tower go to
Setup>Newsagency>General and select the Early Returns tab
    I am currently working on
the last 10 issues based on the average with a percentage of 20 (this is a strict setting so that high volume mags are held more accountable)
The lower the number you put in the “percent of” option, the harsher the returns identified will be. You are probably better off setting this at 50 or 60 until you are comfortable with using these settings.
    Hope this is helpful

I did a cull yesterday of ALL sept mags and have returned, checked out tomorrows invoice and pulled off mags that have a new issue arriving tomoorow, and have sent my returns off today, the few early returns I get tomorrow and whatever I missed today will have to be on next months. better to get the majority thru today than miss out all together. No doubt my computer system cant handle all the payments on the 20th of next month so network will have to wait 🙂

NDC – cannot submit early return until the day they physically arrive. GG seems to work OK.
Maybe I’m just lucky but have received tomorrow mags about an hour ago and certainly not over supplied.

Supply was fine here too but not being able to retur magazines OR ORDER short supplies on part works should be rectified.
