Is Epay retreating from newsagents?

Epay has recently advised newsagents that a key platform through which newsagents could easily, efficiently and safely access its products will be not be supported from July 31.

This is a odd decision by the massive international company.

While newsagents can access many of the Epay offered products through Afterpay touch, some key products are not available on that platform. It is in this area where newsagents could be caught. Do they go with Afterpay Touch for an integrated solution that requires less keystrokes, is faster, financially safer, takes less space and is more easily managed or do they go with the Epay proposal that misses some of those things?

In my opinion, Epay has handled this poorly, like other aspects of their relationship with our channel.

    Both Epay and Touch, and the companies they represent, have treated our channel poorly over many years. The $2.50 a week fee recently introduced by Touch is another example of this, as are the commissions they offer.

    In my view, these products represent legacy lines that should be unimportant to most modern newsagents.

    $2.50 fee? never heard of it nor have we been notified. If this is the case its time to stop selling phone recharge or charge the customer a fee for doing so.

    Shayne today that is the only commercial decision left to make. It’s tragic, however it may well be the state of the economy and not personally aimed at our industry.

    Shayne, the fee is on the bottom of my Touch statement. After complaining, the response I got was:

    Good afternoon Glenn,

    Thank-you for your feedback.

    However if our service is no longer compatible with your business model we can assist with supplying you a Termination form. Simply reply back to this email confirming you wish to go ahead and we can send you the appropriate paperwork.
