We have the new partwork, My Animal Farm, at the front of the newsagency, facing into the shopping mall. You can see it’s next to the start of our plush department. This adjacency makes sense given both products appeal to the same shopper.
National TV advertising starts today. I urge newsagents to make sure they have the title in prime position – to leverage the TV campaign for maximum benefit.

Are you going to tell children sensitively the truth about how animals are really farmed in this country, or you just going to perpetuate the myth for your own profit? Are you going teach children the truth – that farmed animals usually suffer a cruel and miserable existence before they are slaughtered? If not, why not?

Lyn, in my newsagencies we expect parents to do the parenting.

Selling well for us as we expected
How lovely to see these gorgeous little boys and girls walking out with their magazine under their arm and big smiles on their faces and NOT A CARE in the world!

i was suprised the farm partwork didnt sell as well as the helicopter, which came out the same day.
as for how animals are farmed….. its the same all over the developed world, not just australia. go to farmers markets, ask your butcher…. tell the farming industry by voting at the checkout.

Still have stock of #1 and #2 which I’ll pull of tomorrow and only one order which I expect wont hold up more the first couple of months. My gut feeling is its not selling well because the target market (preschoolers) aren’t quiet the expert’s at getting what they want out of their parents that their slightly older sisters who want Dora the explorers little cooks collection are. Also the lack of a brand like Dora to tie it to is telling.

As far as the allocation goes i thought it was spot on, i probally would have orderd exactly what they sent if i had the chance ,i really thought it would have been a hot seller but…no , i was wrong .

Allocation has been fine, its just not working for our market

Selling well.
Allocation is stuffed. I increased my allocation, so they sent me less. I increased my allocation again, so they sent me even less than before. Backorders on everything but part 1 are outstanding.

Max this is another example where we need control. If only the publishers realised they could sell more by getting stock to where it will sell.

Mark,
You are spot on.
My average customer is a grandma. The Animal farm looks good for when the grandkids pop over to Nanna’s house. I also have a few Mums where the kids are about 2 or 3. They want them for the kids. I am getting sent 2. I need more than that for putaways. I can’t put any on the shelf.
