Pay for February 29

Hey, do I get extra pay for February 29 since this year has 366 days and my pay is for 365 days.  That’s what Ben Fielding wanted to know at our Forest Hill store.  It’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all week.  not that I should laugh at his expense.  But, well, I am.  Even though we explained how he’s paid I suspect that Ben still thinks he should get an extra day of pay.  I can’t wait for April 1.  Sorry Ben.

    Mark,

Just tell him he gets paid monthly on the 30th or 31st and as neither date is in February he just misses out altogether.

This is a really issue and not one to be laughed at. Weekly paid staff will be paid for February 29th, so why not Monthly paid. I bet the issue is not covered in many contracts of employment.

I think Ben has raised a serious issue and it should be treated as such.

PS all my staff are weekly paid.

I would assuume most staff are paid wekly, in which case Fed 29 is a non-issue.

Steve, it would depend on what you mean by monthly. In Australia I believe “monthly” would usually mean every four weeks – in which case Feb 29 is again a non-issue.

If there was a contract by which an employee was paid on an actual monthly basis it would depend on the contract’s wording.

    Mark,

Don’t tell Ben but I believe a mob in England actually won a day off because of it, maybe Steve can enlighten us more. However I am suprised that my tonque in cheek remark was taken seriously by Steve and Jarryd, but maybe i now understand Steve’s response,
