Shopping trolley tokens a hit

shop_trolley.JPGWe’ve had shopping trolley tokens in our Frankston store for a just on a week and have all but sold out.  They are proving to be an excellent counter impulse item.  Small footprint.  Good margin.  An easy sell.  We have ordered more and will run them for another few weeks before resting them.  In terms of return on space and return on investment the first shipment of tokens easily beat everything else at the counter.

lots of supermarkets require you to put a $1 or $2 coin which is refundable into a special lock to ensure you return the trolley. rather than ferreting around for a 1 or 2 coin – these discs which are the same shape are kept on your keyring.

Dan, it’s a coin or coin size thing you put in the trolley to unlock it from the next trolley so you can shop. Mark

Seems like a good idea. There is only 1 Superkarket out of 6 or so surrounding me that does this but so i doubt it would fly in my area

we’re lucky in Frankston because we are right outside a Coles which uses coins in trolleys.

    Daniel,

I too was wondering what a shopping trolley token was.

Im no sure if my experience is a wider reflection, but last time I was in Melbourne there seemed to be a much wider use of coin-locked trolleys than here in NSW.

Hey, great to see that you are enjoying the success of the product. We think it is great too as do over 10,000 Victorians who are now using trolley tokens! Seeing our stand nearly empty in such a short time really confirms just what an awesome retail product they are. Liz at http://www.trolleycoins.com.au

The McGrath Foundation now sells shopping trolley tokens and hopes to sell lots to raise funds for breast care nurses throughout Australia and to raise awareness of breast cancer in younger women. With these sales we can continue to grow Jane’s legacy!!!
