Blocking browsing

two_wheels_bag.JPGSomeone needs to remind the folks at News Magazines that guys like to browse motor bike magazines. Bagging Two Wheels – just so you can move out of date stock – will not help sales. It will frustrate browsers and cause trash in newsagencies because some browsers won’t be stopped. When I saw the bagged product yesterday I was inclined to open the bag and put just the current issue of the magazine on the shelf.

We did. Customers are happier. We do it for our whole motoring section.

I can’t understand the need to bag everything, DVD’s are paper thin but they are placed in oversized jackets and then the magazine is sealed up so no one can look through it, or worse we see two out of date mags in with the current issue. Our regular customers say why would they want to read a copy they already have,it tends to put customers off purchase rather than anything. Computer mags have included a DVD for many years on the front cover and still allow customers to read by placing it in a cardboard sleeve.
Having oversized multiple isssues, or extra DVD’s also requires more shelf space as they can only sit one per pocket or a small stack on flat so not to tip over.
Someone must knows more than me about selling mags as we are seeing a huge increase in this bagging.
I thought only porn was hidden from view and that we we supposed to let customers browse, is that not what people say when they see the sign ” this is not a library”?
