Nice newspaper stand

newspaperstand_map.JPGCheck out this newspaper stand I saw a couple of days ago.  It is easy to move, holds a good range of products, easily handles bulk product and can be used to promote other products on the site an back easily.  I like the ability to move the stand the best – one reason customers become store blind is the set and forget approach to newspaper merchandising in newsagencies.  By moving the stand around we can easily refresh our offer.

This stand does not have a place for newspaper posters, something which would concern publishers.  There are ways to address this with screen technology and other poster placement strategies.

I know in Qld you have to put their material in the displays they have divided. I’ve been given (taken over from previous owner) three newspaper holders. These I have to use.

I have three A2 poster frame which they insist I must use, but after reading the contract and knowing the frame are part of the shopfittings they can’t force me to display them – at their dismay.

I like the stand, I’ve seen one in a neighbouring newsagency and it looked great, and increased space in the store. I have a didicated newspaper area and for the profit I make on them is an absolute waste of space. I’m paying rent for it but the papers aren’t paying me.

Mark the days of a dedicated paper stand are over. Whist newspapers are exteremely important, their location in prime spot adds no value. Flexibilty and changeability is now the order of the day. A profitable business will sell papers, a business who closes their doors will not sell any papers.

We have a dedicated paper stand which works very well, in one position, moving this type of product doesnt fit well with the consumer they can become confused and annoyed. Secondly, I believe in the coles, ww philosophy of marketing the bread and milk at the back of the shop, our consumer should also walk through our stores to the paper, thereby we pick up the ad on sale.
