Cool USB sticks

vw_usb.JPGThis VW Kobmi van USB stick is one of many I saw today at the Mega Fair in Hong Kong.  Some manufacturers are creating some fun USB devices – for different demongraphics.  There are USB sticks targeted to men, women and kids.  The people with this Kombi Van USB stick also had USB memory stick readers in the form of a range of luxury cars – for office desks.  Very cool.

Does anyone know if they (or similar) can be sourced in Australia anywhere? Asked lots of suppliers at GNS Fair in Brisbane. No luck

Why are they selling newspower products through gns? Can’t you buy them on the promise of textaring out the logo?

Shaun s, if you get desperate but have the time, I suggest wrapping them in brown paper.

Thanks Michael yeah we wrapped them in brown paper last year but this year we are trying to impress the schools as we have won a few over this year to supply the bulk of there students

I’d love to tackle the school thing but haven’t had the time to research it. Is it a hassle?

Also, I was just thought you could order those archive boxes and implement them in the price? Unless they have newspower on them

the news power boxes are the perfect size to fit most stationary in ,the archive ones are not and they are to expensive .GNS are selling the boxes for 1.25 and i just got off the phone to my rep and he informed me that it is definantly only for newspower customers only as they own newspower or part of it . it is very frustrating especially when you do a quote after looking at it on the website not knowing that GNS are only looking after there own businesses .

    Isn’t that called false advertising?

well thats what i said to the rep ,why have it on the GNS open web site for all agents to order off .

Michael yes i think it is worth the hassle of getting the schools on board the schools get a % of the sale from us so it benifits the students as well and all the orders come in by certain dates and that way we know exactly what stock we need and then it all gets deliverd to the school and there is no need to store individual parcels out the back when space is an issue .

The school thing sounds good, I’ll think about it a bit more before I decide on anything.

I hope that they don’t run out of non-newspower branded stock, that would cause a lot of trouble!!!

I’m not sure where you are situated, but have you tried “stationer’s supply”?

GNS are not the ones dictating that you can’t purchase Newspower product – Newspower are. And rightfully so.

Why shoulda non-Newspower newsagency be able to purchase what is essentially a private label product that is not their own?

Why is it that a company that is there to provide sales to newsagencys only, hence the name GNS part owns a branded newsagency them selves .We all pay a pernentage of the purchase price to gns so that we get a so called deal out of them and so that they have a greater buying power and who exactly is this buying power for newsagncys as a whole or just there own newsagencys
My original point is yeah ok newspower have there deals that is great for them i don’t care but they should not have the prices on there gns web site for all to see .
One last thing Jarryd why is it that GNS are selling products for certain brand name newsagents and not an option for others ,i don’t even care about paying more for it i just want the option .

Jarryd, I believe Shaun’s point is that they shouldn’t advertise a product that isn’t available to the consumer or should have a different site for ordering newspower labeled products. Or simply have a sentence on the bottom on the page saying “Newspower labeled products for Newspower angencies only”.

Shaun- I think you should feel frustrated. Please correct me. Newspower = VANA=Victoria is that right?

In my opinion voicing the good, bad and ugly is what part of this blog is about. People are becoming passionate and involved. Good stuff.

    Shaun,

I am not familiar with the systems GNS use. If they are able to exclude Newspower products from non-Newspower users of their website then they probably should. I would note IGA>D (major supermarket warehouse) do the same thing with private label products – they don’t filter them out for non-branded stores. I would assume it obvious that a non-Newspower newsagent could not purchase Newspower-branded stock.

GNS stock the Newspower boxes because Newspower asked them to put these in the warehouse. If enough newsagents asked for generic boxes to be available (if only at BTS) then they might also stock these.

Derek, the availablilty of boxes has nothing to do with the ownership structure of Newspower. I don’t like GNS’s management approach to their share in Newspower. I would consider myself one of the more outspoken people when it comes to calling for major redirection and change at GNS.

    Hi Jarryd

Actually you need outspoken people, the problem is their are not enough people who do not contribute when things are not as they should be. Constructive perserverance must happen, in this particular case it is GNS. I wish this blog could do a poll from registered and confirmed email address’s on some of these big issues and challenges.

I think polls would keep peoples anonimity if they wish and provide much needed information for all to see. If 1500 people visit here daily I am sure many of them would be involved in information gathering.

(i can waffle on a bit)

Hi, We at “Kandi” distribute the VW usb’s in Australia & New Zealand. They have proven very popular and quite cute as well. We will be receiving another shipment late November early December and also hoping to receive Mini Cooper Cars as well. We are importers/distributors of unique “hot” products to the Australian market and pride ourselves on service as we are a family run business where we try and keep our overheads as low as we possibly can. We are in the process of upgrading are website with our whole range of products – should be upgraded within 2 weeks. Please express your interest if you would like to order from our next shipment.
    Cheers from the Kandi Crew

Hi Loretta- Thanks for the info. Pop back when your website has been upgraded to bump up the post.

I am not sure how many newsagents carry goodies like yours but I am sure their could be a market in the Newsagent Channel for some of your items which I have had a look at as some Newsagents are spreading their wings and are willing to explore other opportunities to entice customers and ‘I must have that” philosophy etc.

Do you propose offering a Nationwide Deal for Australian Newsagents who may be interested in purchasing your products? Their are 4500 Newsagents I believe in Australia

    Thanks for your post. Derek
