Star Wars Official collectors models popular

fhn_starwars.JPGThe Star Wars Official collectors models partwork has been out three days and has already sold very well.  Even though we received almost no marketing collateral we have given the title prime space at the entrance to our blokes magazine aisle.  We know this title will appeal to our customers.  While partworks have their challenges, they are efficient titles for us to sell – basket data shows that partworks customers are more likely to purchase other items when collecting the latest edition.

UPDATE: We sold out in our newsagencies today and are chasing extra stock for back orders.  This is a very successful launch.

Very interesting that you have received this stock and we haven’t. Usually we receive ample supply of Partworks as we are very strong with it…………..it’s the follow up stock that is ALWAYS a problem 🙁

We have had customers asking about this collection since mid-last week, however, we have not been advised of it’s release. We certainly haven’t received any parts to put on display! Who is responsible for distributing this collection?

BTW, poor form by the distributor and the publisher that TV advertising commenced (if only we were able to watch TV long enough to catch the ads ourselves), but nothing was sent to us (and I’m sure, other newsagents) to prepare us for customer questions!! Shame!

    Rob,
Network is distributing this. It is strange the way some newsagents get it and others miss out.
This happened to us last year with the model train partworks, and gotch couldn’t give me an answer as to why we weren’t supplied.

we’ve chased it up last week we were told that the stock was to be delivered on Monday. Well was a no show, spoke to them again response was that we should have done a preliminary order before launch date– uhh?? like we knew partwork was going to be launched and now there is no back stock available and replishment stock- date unknown.

I’m a customer, so this is a one off comment. I am trying to track the source of this Star Wars magazine because I’m frustrated that so few seem to have been delivered. Yesterday I went to over 10 newsagencies to be told that they had recieved 2 or 3 copies, and some had not recieved any. Knowing the popularity of Star Wars you guys must be equally frustrated. You’d sell hundreds of these

MikeW, I can’t speak for all newsagents, but yes I am frustrated!! As I said earlier, our customers knew more about the release than we did and we didn’t receive any stock. I feel bad for you and all the other customers searching desperately for partworks like these. I am not at all surprised when a customer says they will go on subscription.
I should say, though, that since the release, we have found a neighbouring newsagent who does have it and we send customers there. Bad for business, but better for the customer.

We got maybe 10, and meant to give some to one of our newsagency look-alike subagents. Unfortunately, we forgot to allocate them out. By the time we realised, we had 1 left, so our subbie missed out.

As for Cats, I thought that this would be a dud, but we have 1 left of issue 1 and sold out of issue 2. We have a couple of putaways, including someone who wants 2. If only we could move Buffy.

What a disgrace that Part #1 does not seem to be available anywhere anymore, yet the heavy TV advertising continues regardless. We’ve turned away many disappointed customers due to lack of supply. Network should have communicated the problem as soon as it became apparent – still no acknowledgement to this day though.
