I have been working through business data for a newsagent and noticed a change in scratch ticket denominations sold over the last year. Customers are buying more of the lower value tickets in their store. That is, more $1 and $2 tickets and fewer $5 and $10 tickets. They are buying cheaper entertainment. This is not a Victorian shop so it has nothing to do with a change of lottery company. I am curious as to whether other newsagents have noticed this in their businesses.
my 3s, 5’s and 10’s are the only ones with growth 18.3% for the 5’s and 3.85%for the 10’s and 27.78% for the 3’s and with the 1’s and 2’s dropping to 6.25%for the 1’s and 2.75 % for the 2’s
.
We have dropped in $5 tickets (our GC rep confirmed this), but $3 & $10 still increasing. $1 & $2 tickets are steady. I believe the reason for the $3 increase is the PacMan ticket which is more attractive than previous $3 tickets. The $10 increase is, scarily, down to just 2 customers buying these up regularly. We are working on increasing our $5 tickets, though.
i find that the more bays of crosswords you have the more they sell most people are tempted to buy off more than the one roll .The pacman ones are a hit probally one of the best selling games to come out
I’ve noticed a slight increase in people running across the carpark and into my store and getting a $1 scratchie. I have not idea as to why.
Pacman has done really well in my store as well (Qld). The Battleship is also selling very well.
I do not think so. Our total instants have a 3% modest growth YTD. $5 crosswords dominate that mix significantly and always have done so as the mainstay long play ticket. All the others are fitting into the standard sell rate over the year as previously experienced by us and we would sell a significant amount across the board.
The only real changes we notice with lottery products sales are the jackpot affects such as seen with Powerball and OZ.
