Free hair straightener with Dolly

fhn_dolly_jul09.JPGWe have the latest issue of Dolly magazine, which comes with a free nak hair straightener, on display at the entrance to our busiest magazine aisle.  The hair straightener is a great gift and is sure to drive excellent sales – we want those early in the on-sale cycle.

We also have Dolly located in its usual place. The display boxes make merchandising on the flat easy, thankfully.  My only complaint is – one poster!

I understand the importance of these gifts to support Dolly and those used to support Girlfriend – teen magazines are challenged and they need all the support they can get.

ACP are really putting in an effort, the last 2 Dollys, current Madison, Last Cleo, it all helps drives sales and therefore customers in our shops which is good.

Having only a handful of teenage girls coming into my shop each week due to its location, Dolly’s average sale is 1. Hence my surprise at receiving 10 copies this morning. NDD is not the only distributor that does silly things.

Well done ACP!! Packaging in boxes is great, we can put them all over the place. Apart from hitting someone on the head with a straightner when they walk in, customers can’t miss them!!

    Chris,

You might be suprised. We are finding the freebie attracting the interest of everyone from tweens to mothers.

I put together an eye catching display right at the front of my store and sold 11 copies within a couple of hours. I think that Jarryd is right Chris, it is not only teenage girls that will be after the straightner, even guys straighten their hair now a days (including my 12 year old son).

Don’t get me wrong – even though I’m skeptical, the display unit has prime counter position for a week. Nevertheless, I still haven’t sold any at this time!

I like the free gifts they’re doing – I think it will help push the magazine. But if it’s a “free” straightener, why did the price jump from $7.95 to $9.95 between the last issue and this one?

Yes, the price has jumped from 7.95 to 9.95. People who buy the magazine just for the free hair straighter are so naive – it’s cheap garbage! I would never let that thing touch my hair!

if you have a close look Dolly dont use the word free as this would be false advertising due to the increased price

According to a hairdresser rellie, the brand of straightener isn’t too bad. Apparently there are plenty worse on the market. She bought a copy to get the straightener for her girls, so it can’t be that bad.
