ANF does deal on ATMs

Years after ATMs started appearing in newsagencies, Customers Limited announced to the ASX today a deal with the ANF.  It’s an odd move for an industry association.

contract was up for renewal for my atms at 2 different shops, we chose not to renew due to the decline in usage since the $2 fees. depite giving plenty notice, they were scrambling last week (my contract finished on monday this week) to get another shop to take an atm, even though it was us who declined to renew the contract, the sales tactic used to push the ATMs to other shops was “we’re taking their ATM’s off them because they arent doing enough business, but your shop is so much busier, it’ll definately be better for you.” funny that THEY are taking them off us, despite us having the emails here of them practically begging us to renew. glad I got rid of them. the sad thing is, they managed to get the general store a couple of doors up to sign a 10 YEAR contract! english isnt their first language and have only owned the business since Australia day! 10 years!!!!! is this normal practice now? mine was 5 years.

If the Anf have stated to Customers Ltd that there are 5000 Newsagents, did they disclose how many paid up members there are out of that 5000 in which they’re going to weild their influence?

Just thinking about it…How many Newsagents can’t do cash out with eftpos?

    Avery odd move indeed.

we have an atm in our store. there are advantages and disadvantages obviously.

people dont like someone else (cashier) knowing how much they are getting

tradies want cash before 7am for the day, when you may not have enough in the till

people will want to try get money out even though they know there is only a 10% chance the cheque they are waiting on, has cleared (waste time)

    but….

you may need in excess of $20k of your own money in the machine

    floor space

    security

if you are looking at an atm.

make sure you only sign 5 years max,

have a threshold no greater than 400 transactions per month.

and that y0u get $1 per transaction after that

it works for us in a small town as there is no bank atm within 25min drive.

We have had quite a few reps in lately trying to push their ATM’s onto us. Don’t even give them a chance to start their pitch. If our customer needs cash they just add it to their purchase amount.
I think that these guys are feeling the pinch as last years figures on ATM use is down quite a bit.
