Experimenting with the iPad

I am gaining some personal experience with the iPad as a novella I wrote was among the first batch of thousands of titles to be launched through Apple’s iBookstore in the US almost two weeks ago.

The iPad and other devices ovver a new and exciting channel for authors and publishers as the cost to market is lower than print.

You wrote a novella? Hilarious!!! I’m guessing something along the lines of a Mills & Boon.

A friend just brought over his iPad and imo the thing is ugly. Many of the old iphone apps are based on the tilt/touchscreen capabilities, but with the bigger size of the ipad it seems a bit cumbersome unless it’s on a flat surface (which renders tilt/motion basically useless.)

Mark, besides offering “a new and exciting channel for authors and publishers as the cost to market is lower than print” do you really think the iPad (and whatever apple throws out next really) will have a big effect on books/magazine and traditional media in general?

Aaron, not the device released a couple of weeks but the next generation of it and other devices – certainly!

That clears things up. I was under the impression from the many iPad-related posts and from some comments that it would be THE next-big-thing.

I still don’t see how it offers any real difference in terms of accessing ONLINE content (in terms of news, gossip, stories, etc). You’ll either connect via wireless, in which case you’d probably be at home and a pc is faster/easier. Or you’d be on the 3G network which virtually all phones can do nowadays.

And unless i’m mistaken, the Safari browser attempts to load the full webpage? Which would most likely result in higher data charges.
