Is Notebook magazine set to close?

notebook-sep2010.jpgThe Australian is reporting that News Magazines may be about to close Notebook magazine.  Such a move would not surprise me.  It is drawing falling sales in a well crowded segment of the market.

Notebook started fading when they took flowers off the front cover.  Seriously, sort of.  This change represented other changes for the title and indicated, to my untrained eye, that they had lost their way.

If Notebook does close it will be one of the most significant closures in recent years.  It would also put the spotlight on other titles in the 70,000 circulation region.

UPDATE (Oct. 1) The Australian is this morning reporting that an announcement is expected today.

I have been looking for my favorite Notebook magazine to no avail. I’m sorry to hear it has ceased publication.

Have many friends that are very upset the mag is no longer available. Have collected every one. I thought and my friends the content was always great. The reason why we all enjoyed it was because it was not full of garbage. Very encouraging and positive.

My niece overseas liked NoteBook from the first time she got a copy overseas. Though I bought all issues from the first one, I did mention to her that we have too many “COPYCAT” magazines published in this country and it (NB) would die. I was not wrong. Why the heck don’t we just simply import the originals. Where is the Aussie Family Circle now. Another one gone bust. Greedy publishers? Bad Marketing people? The same is happening with motorcycle magazines – many more overseas brands have been showing up as Aussie published ones lately. Their heads will be in the chopper soon. Anyone will to make a bet on that?? Let’s wake up.

Here is another one – if marketing guys are concerned about local content advertising, put your darn ads in the overseas orogial mags and submit GOOD articles to be included as well. We do not have the numbers in this country. The UK and the US have EXCELLENT classic motorcycle magazines I subscribe to and not to long ago an Aussie classic type mag came up. It does not surprise me that it is struggling, and it is the only local classic bike mag. Why don’t we simply puts Aussie ads into the REAL McKoy magazines like they do in National Geographic. Ooops, there is another one – only bought one when it was new since a close family friend was involved in its publishing – not worth the money – cannot even remember the mag’s name this moment but it is also along that line – Gegraphic. What a waste of good management and money.

What a shame Notebook is no longer available. A friend gave me the first issue years ago and I bought it every month without fail. It was the only magazine I bought and was my personal treat. Bring it back.

I’m with LNB, really miss this mag and although I live in NZ, felt I was buying something almost home-grown which is important to me. Guess this is like greeting cards. The only ones on the shelf seem to be made in China or UK. Why ship stuff that far? CRAP crap, crap! Bring back Notebook………..PLEASE.
