I am interested in what newsagents think about the closure of NDD.
Has it affected your business in any way?
Has it imporved competition or lessened it in your view and why?

AT this stage it has made things harder with magazines coming from Fairfax
From my point of view the jury is still out.
We have not had an NDD account for almost 4 yrs now since they started unfairly oversupplying and stealing our cashflow through withholding credits.
But until the dust settles and we see which remaining Dist. get the titles we want we cannot say if it is good or bad move.
I do pity the newsagents who are owed money from NDD, they will have to wait a while yet if past experience is to go by, they do not part with OUR money without a shit fight.
NDD did not forward my standing orders to Network, I did not receive any magazines from Network that were previously with NDD. I am still trying to fix this problem now, have spent hours on the phone to Network and to date I have missed at least 2 issues of almost every monthly title.
The biggest problem with this is the putaways that I have for these titles, I have had to tell my customers if they see the title on shelf when they are shopping elsewhere to purchase it because I simply cannot guarantee supply, this has lost me a lot of money.
On the upside any titles that i no longer want i simply don’t notify Network and i will no longer receive.
I never had a problem with the titles that moved to GG and Fairfax, meaning I cannot be certain that NDD is to blame for this error but it looks that way from where i sit.
after ndd closed, i got more mags from those 2 idiots and i have to return more , my a/c has surpassed my sale. good on you GG and ACP. I hope you are not loosing $$ more next year! 252057
As has been said above, the Fairfax mags are a bit of a pain,we here in tassie get them via a 3rd party (Davies Bros) who really had no idea or interest in them and it took until last week to flush through the finer points like early returns, but apart from that the only prob is having to go back over adjusting/deleting NDD titles now being exploited by the other 2 numptys
We have the opposite problem to MC. Network have gone berserk in sending us titles that we spent much time trying to stop NDD from sending us. Network also seem to have taken license with existing titles as well. eg Cosmo. Our average sales of this title are 9 per month over the last 12 months. Our supply has increased recently from 15 to 30 to 41. Justification? there is none.
I have not missed NDD at all. It was my experience that they are the worst of the three. Fairfax no early return and accounting system are very difficult to manage however i understand they are changing to a different system soon???. My early returns continue to grow. So does my transport bill.
Wally , Fairfax, at least in Queensland, have been very accomodating with early returns and stopping supply of unwanted titles. I just got on the phone and politely spoke to one of the wonderful (and I really do mean that they are wonderful – if only everyone was as easy to deal with !!) girls who told me to submit an early return for anything I didn’t want and it was credited the very next day. Also stopped any of the unwanted titles at the same time. She said they were aware that they had issues with the magazine supply model but they were working towards a working model. I can’t praise Fairfax Qld highly enough ! Great customer service Fairfax and full kudos to you ! Some of the other companies could learn alot from you .
I am the same as Shayne. We are receiving titles that took us a long time to finally cancel with NDD. Titles we have sold none of over a long period but continued to receive. We are getting flooded with magazines from both distributors. A lot now reappearing after they have been cancelled over 12mths ago. The cycle begins again!!
We are getting flooded with mags from all distributors including tiltes that they cut from us two\three years ago. This is on top of the 5% margin cut for magazines arriving thru Fairfax.
DM & MJ the exact same thing is happening here. Titles we cancelled 2 years ago are now appearing again along with a lot of rubbish. We have nowhere to put them, so we have to either take other titles off the shelf early or early return these titles, or a combination of both
We too have found Fairfax staff wonderful in Queensland but I wonder how they can make any money as they diliver every title in an individual parcel via Toll Priority. Most bundles have only one or two mags in it. I’m not sorry to see NDD go as we returned the full supply of most titles dumped on us. I would never have made a profit with them.
NDD lost our business some 2 years ago now, we only ever really sold the Live to Ride title so we terminated our account. Unfortunately we are now seeing all those rubbish titles coming back and it is driving me nuts returning them all.
Seems to all be going well
Our monthly bill for the freight of returns went up over 50% in September.
Oversupply has certinly reared its ugly head even further since the closure of NDD. Whether it is a temporary transitional or more permanent ongoing problem is yet to be seen.
I love it when NDC increase the quantity of a title that NDD used to send, then when I go to the website they tell me I can’t cancel or reduce the title as there is no sales history. Who are they kidding, what do they know about my sales history. I appreciate the limitations of their computer system, however what changes or concessions have they made to rectify this.
I tried to be proactive and went to NDC website to change allocation for the NDD titles. I didn’t want any of the NDD titles anyway.
No deal apprently. no sales history = no changes allowed.
how stupid is that. they always say…” go to website…..you can change allocations”
seems more like for show only. we can’t change almost all titles. as long as we sold a copy like 100 months ago….WE CANNOT cancel a title. 1 copy in a 100 months (exaggerated of course…..closer to 6-8 months) how flawed is that…. if a title cannot sell for X amount of months….the system should allow us to cancel.
