Ripping up the front page of the newspaper

hs-oct9.JPGThe Collingwood AFL Grand Final victory book with the Herald Sun today is very popular.  I am surprised that customers don’t complain when we tell them we need to rip out the coupon.  That front page story is not as important as the Collingwood book I guess. The coupon for the book and the free seeds today are on the bottom left corner of page two.

Surely the coupon is only needed if a customer wants the give away without buying the paper (e.g. a home delivery customer should bring in the coupon). But if a person is buying the paper in the shop, why bother to tear out the coupon? In my experience, the paper company NEVER requires the coupons to be returned. Save the time and frustration.

Bruce we were asked to collect this coupon. We sold our run three years ago and do not have a direct account for newspapers.

In 20 years I have never once collected these coupons from the paper and don’t intend to start now.

Mark, I hope you enjoyed only making 1cent profit per copy of the collingwood book today. What a joke, no wonder newsagents are a dying business.

Scott I was happy for the traffic and frustrated with the micro margin.
