Using (abusing) newsagents to sell books

supersize-book.jpgSome newsagents received this book with their magazines this morning.  Did you?

Magazine distributors should not be sending this type of product through the magazine distribution channel without gaining permission from newsagents first.  Beyond the margin problem there is also the issue of where and how to display the product.  Sure newsagents could put it with other books but they are often remainder books.

As with the John Tickell book last year, supply of this book through newsagents is ridiculous.  It sucks out cash on the last day of the month.  It is an abuse of newsagents.

Sounds like you got off quite lightly. We recieved 10 copies of a book called “Sex Slave: my true story of innocence abduction and escape” from Gordon and Gotch (rrp $9.95). Presumably we are supposed to put it next to the New Idea. I think we might early return however. Thanks Gordon and Gotch!

I have had 3 x supplies of the junior Masterchef mook (mag/book) with
sales only minimal so there is absolutely no reason for another 31 today (to go on this month’s a/c and I have sent them straight back (but will have to wait a month for a credit. If this isn’t abuse I don’t know what is

Well so far we have received 98 Jnr Masterchef’s across 3 deliveries and we haven’t sold 1 since the 1st delievery on the 22nd.

Not sure how they will react to not only the last 28 (today) going back but a further 40 that I wasn’t sure about now heading back “topped”

You cannot tell me that the last delivery of junior masterchef that was made after the returns cut off was not simply a cash grab by GG. At around $15 per copy they have feathered their own nest nicely going into xmas. We are like everyone else we have sold bugger all but got an extra bulk with no possibility of returning it and getting credit this month.
And these people wonder why newsagents are cutting back on mags so big.
To the publishers (ok I know it is only news limited) but do you realise the damage being done to your title by GG as we are no longer giving this prime location, or was this your plan to grab the short term cash not theirs?

a magazine called TACKLE JUNKIE comes out tomorrow i will be sending it staight back, as a customer just brought me in his that he gets free from one of the shops in town , so they must have 2 editions one for free (which the free part is printed on large print) and the other for newsagents to fund the next edition

what do you expect…it is xmas season……

xmas bonuses for everyrone at GG. i hope those people who are in charge for sending the extra Junior master chef magazines chokes and dies from the xmas ham.

can’t think of a reason to split up deliveries 1 before cutoff date and 1 after cutoff.

Ed, Credit where it is due. Publishers start the problem with the volume of stock they give to distributors.

PS. Gotch is not that profitable.
