Price stuff up with Sportsman

sportsman.jpgThe latest issue of Sportsman out today has two prices on the cover: $7.00 and $5.50.  Customers are expecting the $5.50 price.  Some newsagents have not been told by their distribution newsagent about the price increase.  It makes me wonder what communication was provided by the publisher.

My view is that this issue as to be sold for $5.50 and that distribution and retail newsagents need to be compensated by the publisher.

Rang my suppling agent this morning to query the price he was not aware of it and did not recieve any paper work. Rang another agent who obviously receives electronic invoicing and he told me it scanned at $7.00 so that is what he was charging. Later in the morning i asked a putaway customer if she knew about the $7.00 price? She said “it was in last weeks edition but if it continues to be $7.00 she will look at cancelling her putaway”. The back page runs a story on next issue being $7.00 and why. We received an e-mail from QNP at 10.14 am, wonder how many agents already sold them at $5.50?

    Cheers

As a service to our regular customers , we are selling THIS issue for $5.50 but if tuesdays paper comes with 2 prices we will be blacking out the $5.50 price. Againwe are doing this as a service as we will wear the loss.

In recent months we’ve received a number of faxes from HWT advising us of these bumper issues. Something like ten friday editions over the space of three or four months will be $7 rather than $5.50. This is probably the fifth of these. This is a PITA. From the responses here, a number of agents have probably sold past $7 issues for $5.50 without realising. Magazines which regularly change their prices are a pain. eg BRW, Harper’s Bazaar, Zoo. Too much confusion with customers and subagents. Too much stuffing around with the computer. I don’t supply these mags to subagents for that reason.
Sent an impolite fax request to the Sportsman to make all issues $6 and stop wasting our time.

News limited sent a fax through a few months ago think late October detailing dates and issues where they would be combined they also supplied a new barcode for these editions I copied this notice when it first came out and gave it to my sub agents whom sell the sportsman. What my sub agents do with information I pass on I have no idea but I do try and keep them informed

Then bugger me, they issued a separate page for Connect returns, just to stuff up all the Monday morning printouts for our records.
BTW, why do they have the biggest Connect page??? Nobody else has half a page devoted to home deliveries! Theirs is the worst setup.
