Christmas cheer from Gordon and Gotch

Magazine distributor Gordon and Gotch sent our an email to newsagents saying pay your bill on time and, at the bottom, thanks for your business and have a good Christmas.

Their wish for success for newsagents for the New Year depends on their actions in managing magazine distribution.

Look at this year, magazine sales are down year on year but Gotch billings are not down by a commensurate amount, even allowing for the closure of NDD.

The best way for Gotch to be paid on time is to supply to a model which is cash flow positive for newsagents and which delivers margin with which newsagents can pay for stock, rent, labour and have something left for the owners.

Personally, I thought the Christmas email from Gotch was clumsy.

    Clumsy?? How about downright disrespectful?
And yet we had to wait nearly four months for money they owed us this year due to communication breakdowns between their departments. Despite phonecalls and emails. Boy it sucked. And it wasn’t a piddling amount, either.
    Bah bloody humbug!

Yes – I got the bloody message. Sent email back to Mole (who as usual hasn’t got the good manners to acknowledge it) stating that as they sent me $9000.00 worth of magazines in the last week of November I was only going to pay them half of the total November account by the 20th. As I said to them before, if I treated my customers they way they treat theirs I wouldn’t be in business. Merry Xmas to everyone else.

all of us should actually just do what ross did. just pay everything up until their cut-off date. why should they charge us 1 full month when they only allow us less than 1 month returns.

Chris – I will let you know.
For your info. I had to do this in Sept (& wasn’t put on stop)after letting them know my intentions.
What pisses me off is that they just don’t contact me or acknowledge my correspondence.
We are a Sth Aust country newsagency that has to be cautious of every cent we spend at the moment as do all of us, what with with ‘back to school’ etc.
Time will tell. I cannot believe how bloody useless the ANF is in all this and is the reason I didn’t join this year and told them so. I could use the $900 membership to help pay my magazine returns freight costs. When I see them do something positive (instead of crap ‘special deals’)I will consider joining again

I admit I talk for as long as I can to this woman, knowing a she starts at A in the alphabet, hoping if I use up her time of day she may not get all the way down her list and bother the rest of you LOL.
