We now have too many new partworks being launched at the same time. The drought has turned into a flood with the launch last week of Build Your Own Tiger Tank. We are doing our best to promote the new title but space is at a premium. Also, the total cost of building the tank, in excess of $2,000, has already been mentioned by customers as a challenge. That and the highly special interest nature of this title. We have Build Your Own Tiger Tank on display behind the counter – space shared with another part series.
Publishers who really want engagement from newsagents on partworks will:
- Fix the supply chain to ensure that we can satisfy customer orders.
- Fix the problems with back orders.
- Enable newsagents to offer the free gifts to lock customers in.
- Help newsagents pre-order based on their assessment of the title.
Partworks can work well if better managed and if there was a more common sense approach to release schedules.
lucky they did not allocate some to us.

At the final cost and having in the past had expensive part series models go sour, I would not touch this one with a ten foot poll.
Until the distributors / publishers treat these type of part series as a contract with the customer and supply in full and in a reasonable time frame every issue, I will not risk the good will of my business by letting customers down over such expensive part works.
It has in the past caused great angst in my business and is not good enough.

just saw the add on TV for this tonight,it looks great but $2,000? thats a bit steep.im a customer BTW not a newsagent,i googled and found this blog, will it be a new issue every fortnight? im already hooked on the ‘fighter plane collection.’ but yeh,i’d hate to buy the first 10 or so issues of the tiger, only to have it taken of shelves….

Hawko, yes, every fortnight. It will be on the shelves to the end otherwise the importer will have to compensate.

Thanks for the info Mark, don’t think i would’ve committed to this if there was no guarantee of getting all the issues, also do you get all the tools you need? like glue, sand paper, paint etc? be a bit of a pain to have to buy it separately.

don’t waste your money and time for the tank, i guarantee you will have trouble collecting them. Iam a newsagent and i don’t encourage my loyal customers to collect them and i tell them it takes 2 years and $2000.
