Good to see shop hours decision upheld

I was pleased to see that the full bench of fair Work Australia dismissed an appeal by the main union covering shop workers against an earlier decision permitting shifts shorter than 3 hours for school kids. This is particularly helpful in newsagencies where after school work provides an excellent learning opportunity for students.

Thank God for common sense for once, our kids finish school at 3:30 by the time they get to the shop it is 4pm and we close at 6pm. It cost them 10 hrs work per week and makes it hard for both of us.

This is so good – one tiny chink of common-sense in a fog of IR gloom.

It has meant I no longer have to work the extra hours and I have been able to re-employ the most billiant young staff member, If only we could clone her.
