Newsagents flock to the Sydney Gift Fair

gift-fair.JPGNewsagents have attended the Reed Gift Fair in Sydney this past weekend in huge numbers, far more than previous years.  The Tower Systems stand has engaged with many newsagents – we have been at this show regularly for years and so are in a position to gauge the jump in newsagent attendance.  It has been terrific to see such a massive increase in newsagent participation.  This shows that many in the channel are embracing change.

The Gift Fair is important because of the diversity of product on offer and the variety of business owners you get to mix with.

I am surprised that more newsagent suppliers do not embrace the Gift Fair opportunity … their loss I guess.

In todays mail – a flyer from Lawrence and
Hanson and Auslec – Suppliers to the Electrical Industry. A Free Newspaper for the first 20 customers every day until end of November. I’m beginning to think it’s
only Newsagents who actually pay for papers, because no one else seems to be. Soon the publishers might trip themselves up and offer Newsagents free papers for 3 months by mistake!

my local L& H started buying at full price from me 20 x local papers last week – now i understand why. I don’t know where ALL THE OTHER L&H’s are gettting their papers from. It may simply be an incentive push by L&H to bring in customers – they might be having a downturn too….

I couldn’t agree more Mark. Stock we bought at the Melbourne show has sold very well.By way of example the profit we made from one Leather bag we sold yesterday equates to selling 1923 copies of our daily newspaper.

    Mark,

Must admit we have attended every trade show for the past 3 years. Whilst we dont find much new each time, we do generally find the on neww thing that will sell. We have found that the last day is generally the nest, as we got a lot of discounts… I think all up we spent about$7.5K this time.

Only real dissapointment is that we have been unable to find ‘cheap’ Xmas tress. 3-4 years ago we found a wholesale supplier that had these great trees and reindeers for $2.00 each. Have not been able to source since at anyting close to the price… Anyone come accross any?

Happy to o in for bulk order if required…

    Cheers

    Peter
