Newspaper scrambles to help out after a newsagency closure

Port Macquarie News has a story about helping newspaper customers following the unexpected closure of Lighthouse Beach Newsagency a couple of days ago.  I feel for the family behind the business and the circumstances leading to them closing so close to Christmas.

Likewise Mark. I feel sorry for the family who has obviously only owned the business for a short time (22 months ?). Very sad to see it go pear shape that quickly – makes me realise how lucky I am.

Dreadful, but not unexpectedly so, how selfish and pompous the newspaper comes across regarding “not having the papers on peoples breakfast tables”. If they pulled their head out of their posterior and paid a realistic amount to the newsagencies for the distribution and sales in the first place then they wouldn’t have to worry about that.

I also feel sorry for the family involoved in this instance, but what really is the problem here?
I think 70-75% of the problem is with the people who buy these newsagencies paying nearly 800k- 1 million without knowing the in’s and out’s of these businesses.I have been looking at some of the profiles of businesses on market and it makes me wonder how much the asking price is for them.
For me if you can’t repay your money within 4-5years of buying the business it’s not worth buying it.
I think it was last year or the year before when one of newsagencies(sub) in northern suburbs shopping centre was put on market for 2.3million.Over the last 2 years the asking price kept on dropping from 2.3 mil to 1.8, then 1.5 then 1.2 then 1.1 then 975k finally to 950k.Ultimately the shop was closed last month without selling. feel sorry for the owners but if the price was realistic the business might have been sold.
So top blaming anyone for this, the owners of business are responsible for being greedy. be realistic when you put the business on market.
