A record Boxing Day?

It’s lunch time on Boxing Day and we have already passed last year’s numbers in many departments.  We have what look like loss leaders to pull traffic … driving excellent sales for other departments. For example, in magazines, unit sales at lunchtime are up 50% on total day sales for Boxing Day last year.

While being in a shopping centre has its challenges, days like today are terrific.

Andy these numbers are from the newsagency at Knox which is now more than two years old. This is our third Christmas Where the numbers are off a low base I note that FYI.

At the end of trade for the day: calendars up 600%, Magazines up 376%. Both off healthy bases. We made the most of the traffic on the day and did this with no increase in labour costs over last year.

Andy, well. This is the business over which I exert the most influence. When in Melbourne I am there three, sometimes four, time a week. I get to the others a couple of times a year.
