WTF The Monthly?

I’m in Perth at the Virgin Australia lounge and they have a couple of stacks of the latest issue of The Monthly here for the taking.  Okay I get it that they want to attract new readers and therefore don’t begrudge them offering it for free here.  What irks me is that here in Perth they are giving away the latest issue while newsagencies back east are yet to receive this issue.

Publishers should give retailers like newsagents priority. We sell their product after all. No excuses!

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, it’s. not what is supposed to happen!!

We use airport lounges as promotional chanels to raise awareness of the magazine. These copies are dispatched and embargoed until the on-sale date, obviously the Perth lounge has ignored this. To avoid outlets putting copies out early for all future issues are going to hold back on our distribution into the lounges so they are not received until at least the On sale date.

    Cheers

Wil, why would a potential customer value
a product that you obviously don’t value
    yourself.
If someone sees something for free why
would they, in the future, value it and pay
    for it?
I don’t get your motivation and I agree with Mark about the newsagency channel
    being treated with such disrespect.
It doesn’t help us to respect your product when it EVENTUALLY arrives instore.
I, personally, have always loved the Monthly, but I feel aggravated and irritated
    by your response.
It doesn’t show any understanding of our
channel at all, but I am pleased that you
responded here so that we can all read
and try to understand both sides of the
    issue.

Again thanks for visiting and the Subject matter on the cover would be very much of interest to the Western part of Australia population. I think it looks like Gina Reinhart and family.

Its your business and you can do what you want, for Free annoys me and I am sure it would annoy Newsagents in the West also.

Publishers must understand if you dont support the Newsagency channnel, some will not support the Publisher.

Wil thanks for responding. If you’re still around what’s up with supply. We got 12 copies of the summer edition and sold 1 and 4 copies of the latest editions and will probably sell out.
