Stuck-on ad too heavy for newspaper front page

The ad for Dick Smith stuck to the front cover of the Sunday Herald Sun yesterday was too heavy, causing covers to tear. The photo shows the tear on one copy of the newspaper, the top of the bundle. the tear starts at where the stuck-on ad is stuck. This ad is different as it is triple the usual thickness of these types of ads.

Outside of the thicker ad, I wonder how the AFL feels about football editorial being covered up by an ad. It demeans the newspaper in my view as regulars here would know.

Preparing these for home delivery, quite a few fell off and ended up on the floor here, or on the wrapping machine, or in the wrapping machine. Of those that made it through unscathed, about half were folded over themselves beneath the plastic.

I peeled one off because it was crumpled, then realized it left a sticky patch anyway, which would annoy a customer, so I left them. I have only ever had negative comments from customers about these stick-ons. I also notice that since the Dick Smith Mother’s Day ad was only for electronic product worth greater than $50 – $200. I’d estimate that the ads are targeted to approximately zero of my demographic, so, let them “rip” …..

Mark…why would the AFL care? Don’t they compete with the Herald Sun now?

yeah I guess ted. I just figured they would want more control over how their property is represented (covered).

Maybe we are also in for a change the way Newspapers format their product, I cannot remember when the Sydney Daily Telegraph had a full page advertisement on the back page, except for specials like the budget, elections or Anzac Day. Sport took second place this morning.
