I have been in Sydney overnight and based on the long queues I saw at lottery outlets here yesterday, it will take retail skill and relentless focus for newsagents selling lotteries to leverage the traffic surge this week into purchases of other products with a lottery purchase. It’s a week of opportunity.

So much for having cup day off. But no whinges. These opportunities are few and far between.

Getting the add ons is the key, with the huge draw customers will all bring in $$$ but we make so little out of lotto. We have to get them to look at the rest of the shop as well as the lotto posters. We have a few ideas to leverage traffic so good luck to everyone as this may the bridge between now and xmas sales, fingers crossed.
this is brilliant and I have been seeing heaps of new customers this week, have been changing displays every day and have tracked higher than average magazine sales each day for a week. Now this weekend I want to get gift ideas more into the mix….
My regular customers know what I have, but these new one-time visitors are new fodder !
I am finding people are not interested in the Powerball Jackpot or Saturdays $21. There certainly will be a lot less money in the community after Cup Day and the $100 Jackpot. I think our other sales are still going along OK. We don’t get a cup day holiday in QLD and I had booked to go to a lunch for the first time in years. I am still going but not for long. To top all this now that Cairns Post is printed in Townsville we don’t get papers until 12.30 – middle of lunch hours.
Carol , i was wondering what time you get your cairns post now . on the plus side i am one hour north of townsville and it now come 3 hours earlier .
